Mike Macdonald became the Seahawks’ head coach in January 2024, hired from the Baltimore Ravens where he had been defensive coordinator. In his second season Seattle won Super Bowl LX, beating New England 29-13 on February 8, 2026, the franchise’s second title.
Timeline with Seattle
- Jan 2024: Hired as head coach, replacing Pete Carroll.
- 2024 season: First year as an NFL head coach.
- 2025 season: NFC champions; Super Bowl LX winners over the Patriots.
- Feb 2026: Brian Fleury hired from the 49ers as offensive coordinator, after Klint Kubiak left to become the Raiders’ head coach.
- Mar 2026: 2026 staff finalized; Aden Durde and Jay Harbaugh retained as defensive and special teams coordinators.
Background
Macdonald came up through the Baltimore Ravens as a defensive assistant and position coach, spent 2021 as Michigan’s defensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh, and returned to Baltimore as defensive coordinator for 2022 and 2023, where his defense led the league in several categories in his second season. Seattle hired him at 36, at the time the youngest head coach in the NFL, to replace Pete Carroll after 14 seasons. His first Seahawks team went 10-7 and missed the playoffs on a tiebreaker; his second won the franchise’s second Super Bowl.
What his teams look like
The defense is the identity: disguised coverages, simulated pressures, and a front that rotates heavily. The 2025 unit that carried the Super Bowl run was built around Devon Witherspoon, Byron Murphy II, Leonard Williams, DeMarcus Lawrence and rookie Nick Emmanwori. On offense, the 2026 change from Klint Kubiak to Brian Fleury as coordinator keeps the wide-zone run game and play-action structure with Sam Darnold.
2026 coordinators
Brian Fleury (offense), Aden Durde (defense), Jay Harbaugh (special teams), with Leslie Frazier as assistant head coach. Full list on the coaching staff page.
