Seahawks at Cardinals game day guide: Week 2 in Glendale

The first road game of the title defense is against the division opponent Seattle beat twice last year, in a closed and air-conditioned dome, with Drew Lock at quarterback and a Cardinals team that is 1-0 after beating the Chargers by 12 in Los Angeles. Kickoff is a normal Sunday afternoon slot, so this one is a bar game in Seattle and a tailgate game in Glendale.

The basics

How to watch

FOX has the late-afternoon window, so the game is on your local FOX affiliate over the air and on every live-TV streaming service that carries FOX. NFL+ streams it on phones and tablets. Out-of-market fans without a FOX affiliate showing the game need NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV. The Seahawks app carries the local radio call for listeners in the Seattle area and for international listeners in Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Australia and New Zealand.

The line

As of Sunday morning, September 20, the consensus has Seattle favored by 3.5, priced around -120, with the total at 41.5 and a moneyline near Seattle -205, Arizona +170. The number opened at Seattle -10 in the spring lookahead and came all the way in on two pieces of news: Sam Darnold’s injury and Arizona’s win over the Chargers. The spread has held at 3.5 since midweek; the total is the thing that moved, up a point from 40.5 overnight. Books are split between -3.5 (bet365, DraftKings), -4 (BetMGM, Caesars) and -4.5 (FanDuel), so shop the number if you are betting it.

Two notes before kickoff. Saturday’s downgrade of right guard Anthony Bradford did not move the spread, and Arizona still carries six questionable, four of them interior linemen; the inactives at 11:55 a.m. are the last real information before the number settles. And ESPN’s matchup predictor has Arizona at 53.4 percent, on the other side of the spread from the betting market, because models lean hard on last week in September and Arizona’s Week 1 was a blowout while Seattle’s was a 13-10 grind.

Where to watch in Seattle

A 1:25 Sunday kickoff is the standard Seahawks bar slot, and the popular rooms fill by noon. Buckley’s in Belltown is the downtown choice from the team’s Bar Alliance. Outside the Alliance, Hatback Bar and Grille in SoDo has the 23-foot screen; the Blarney Stone is by Pike Place; Rhein Haus on Capitol Hill opens at 9 a.m. on football Sundays, takes reservations, and has more than 20 screens; and the Admiral Pub in West Seattle has two projection screens and a dozen televisions. The Occidental Mall watch party that Hometeam ran for the opener was a one-off for kickoff week; the full Bar Alliance list is below.

If you are going to Glendale

The Sea Hawkers are there. The Arizona chapter of the official booster club has met at Skeptical Chymist Irish Pub in Scottsdale since 2006 and has grown to three Valley locations: Skeptical Chymist, Cheers Tavern at 5915 W. Bell Road in Glendale, a few minutes from the stadium, and Wicked Rain in Gilbert for the East Valley. Any of them will be navy and green for this game, and Cheers is the natural pregame stop.

It is the Cardinals’ home opener, and they have made a day of it. It is also the club’s Latino Heritage Month game. On the Great Lawn before kickoff: the Cardinals Mercadito, ten Hispanic-owned food vendors; the JLPN Band on the lawn stage; and a lowrider show with classic F-Series trucks and Mustangs from the Arizona Ford dealers. Paulina Manzo sings the anthem. Halftime is Mariachi Rubor, an 18-piece all-female mariachi ensemble, with Ballet Folklórico dancers and flag bearers. Arizona wears its desert-inspired “Built to Last” uniform, and the field carries the custom Rivalries end-zone artwork.

State Farm Stadium. Capacity 63,400, retractable roof that will be closed for a September game, with the grass field that rolls out of the building between events. It sits off Loop 101 between Cardinals Way and Glendale Avenue in the Westgate entertainment district, which has the restaurants and bars for before and after.

Parking and tailgating. This is the opposite of Lumen Field. Parking is plentiful and cheap by NFL standards, roughly $10 to $30 for general lots and up to $75 for premium reserved, all sold digitally and cashless. Lots open four hours before kickoff, tailgating is encouraged, and the Great Lawn, eight acres of grass in the middle of the lots, is the designated tailgate area: you park around it and set up on it. Tailgating has to wrap up at kickoff.

Bags and heat. Same clear-bag rule as Seattle: one clear bag no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or a small clutch up to 4.5 by 6.5. Mid-September in Glendale is regularly above 100 degrees in the lots even though the building is cooled; bring water for the tailgate and expect the walk from the far lots to feel longer than it looks.

Seahawks news going in

• Drew Lock starts, and Tory Horton is back. Lock makes his first start since 2023 after going 16 of 22 for 187 yards, a touchdown and a 113.3 rating in relief of Sam Darnold, who was hurt on the fifth play of the opener. Leonard Williams on him this week: “We believe that he’s the best second-string quarterback in the league.” Horton practiced fully all three days and carries no designation, his first game since a shin injury ended his rookie season last November. Macdonald: “Tory’s back. Had a great week at practice, excited to see him play.”
• The final report, plus a Saturday downgrade. Darnold (glute) and Ty Okada (hamstring) are out, and right guard Anthony Bradford was downgraded from questionable to out on Saturday afternoon with the knee and hip. Christian Haynes is in line to start at right guard, which is a change on the interior against this front. Nick Emmanwori (ankle and hip) is still questionable after sitting out Friday. Seattle also elevated safety Rodney Thomas II from the practice squad for a second straight week; he started the opener, played 70 of 71 snaps and broke up the pass that became Pritchett’s interception. Cooper Kupp (back) and Josh Jobe (wrist) cleared. On Darnold, Macdonald would not name a week: “He’s on his way back. Is it next week? Is it the week after? I’m not sure, but I’m optimistic.” Zach Charbonnet is close to starting practice off PUP, possibly next week. The full table is below and on the news page; inactives post at 11:55 a.m.
• The run defense is the bet. Seattle allowed a league-low 3.7 yards per carry last season and has gone 27 straight games without allowing a 100-yard rusher, a streak that survived Rhamondre Stevenson in the opener. Arizona’s Week 1 plan was 72 plays and 37 minutes of possession, which does not work if the run does not.
• Road form. Seattle went 8-1 on the road last season and is 11-1-1 at State Farm Stadium going back to 2013, and has won nine straight in the series. Only three players on Arizona’s roster have beaten the Seahawks.
• The ledger from Week 1. Ten penalties for 98 yards, many pre-snap, and nothing in two red-zone trips. Brian Fleury called the penalties “controllable” and “correctable.” A road dome is where that claim gets tested. Our recap has the full account and the preview has the matchups and a prediction.

Cardinals news going in

• They beat the Chargers 26-14, and it was not close. Arizona ran 72 plays to 51, held the ball fifteen minutes longer, outgained Los Angeles 393 to 268 and did not turn it over. Mike LaFleur is the first Cardinals coach to win his debut since Don Coryell in 1973.
• Six questionable, four of them interior linemen. Guards Isaiah Adams (knee) and Isaac Seumalo (shoulder) on offense; tackles Andrew Billings (knee) and Roy Lopez (groin) on defense. Corner Max Melton (ankle) and safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (ribs) are also questionable, and corner Garrett Williams is out with the Achilles he has been rehabbing since last season. Safety Kitan Crawford went on injured reserve Wednesday with an ankle injury from the opener; Kalen King came up from the practice squad.
• Jacoby Brissett is the quarterback. Not Gardner Minshew, who took the preseason reps. Brissett went 27 of 37 for 277 and a touchdown to Trey McBride, who caught nine for 95 and has 35 catches for 382 yards in four career games against Seattle. McBride and Kendrick Bourne accounted for 11 of Arizona’s 15 passing first downs. Marvin Harrison Jr. caught one pass for 33 yards.
• Jeremiyah Love played and scored. The third overall pick barely practiced in August with a high-ankle sprain, then ran 11 times for 41 and scored on the opening drive. Tyler Allgeier carried 17 times for 61. James Conner is on injured reserve with a foot injury until at least Week 5, and rookie defensive lineman Kaleb Proctor is out for the season.
• Around the division. The 49ers beat the Rams 27-7 in Melbourne, so San Francisco, Seattle and Arizona are all 1-0. This is Seattle’s only division game before November.
